DESCRIPTION
Our classrooms provide a rich diverse basis upon which to develop students' intercultural and global
perspectives. This course will explore intercultural processes, development of a global perspective and
educational approaches to support these investigations. We will explore approaches which actively engaged
students in developing an understanding of, and a responsibility for, promoting positive interdependent
relationships on local, national and global levels so that individually and collectively world citizens can
increasingly be participants in a socially just and equitable world.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Participants will:
• examine the nature of, and approaches for developing, a global perspective
• investigate some of the major issues in intercultural and global education
• analyze approaches which are culturally responsive and responsible
• compare models of integrating and infusing cultural, global and multicultural content across the curriculum
• examine intercultural communication skills
• explore approaches to creating a culturally rich environment that nurtures all children
• engage in field experiences and interactions with international students to examine their own global
perspectives
• investigate ways teachers and schools inadvertently further social injustices
• examine teaching practices and education systems in different cultural contexts

Participants are expected to approac mvestigations from an open minded
9 critical perspective. You will
maximize your learning and support the learning of others by actively engaging in class activities. Because of
this, 4% will be deducted for each missed class. All assignments are to be submitted by the due date specified,
unless arranged with the instructor at least one week in advance. Late submissions that have not been
approved in advance will be penalized by a loss of one letter grade (e.g. B to B-) for each day late. Work
handed in must be completed for this course only. Cases of plagiarism will be dealt with under the university
regulations.
REQUIRED READINGS
Readings will be provided by the instructor at a cost of $20.00. Please provide the $20.00 at the second class.
