PREREQUISITE:
EDUC 401/402 and certified practising teacher. Students may take no more than
three Tr-University courses toward a degree or diploma.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This practical presentation will focus on the strategies necessary to ensure a well-structured service
delivery system to serve students with learning difficulties. Issues of identification and assessment
will be addressed. Through a cooperative planning model, resource and classroom teachers assume joint
responsibility for program planning, curriculum modification, and evaluation.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Students will:
• Gain an historical perspective on assessment practices, uses and abuses;
• Understand the range of current assessment practices, including observation, diagnostics
screening measures and formal testing;
• Examine models for programming based on assessment results;
• Become familiar with strategies for implementing cooperative planning and consultation to
support individual students' learning programs; and
• Understand the skills needed in a consultative role.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
There will be two assignments required. The first of these will be based on the pre-reading articles. It
will be given out on the first day of class and due on day 5. The second assignment will be due on the last
day of class.
REQUIRED READINGS
A package of pre-readings will be sent to students prior to the beginning of classes. Students will be
charged for the cost of course materials. Payment will be collected at the first class.
