COURSE OBJECTIVES
Increasingly, the face of Canadian schools is changing as students from a
variety of cultures and language backgrounds enter our classrooms.
Designed for the non-specialist, this course will help the classroom teacher:
1)
understand basic second language learning theory, and the philosophy of
integration;
2)
understand the background knowledge necessary in working with ESL
children and their parents; and
3)
develop teaching skills to integrate ESL students into the regular
elementary classroom.
COURSE EVALUATION
Course evaluation will be decided upon after the class has had its first
meeting, but will consist of a combination of in-class work and
homework/project assignments.
