COURSE DESCRIPTION
Building on the experience of Educ 252, prospective educators will continue to develop their capacity
for reflective practice. Various educational issues related to caring for learners and the creation of
learning communities will be explored through academic literature, classroom activities, discussions, and
interactions with students and practicing teachers. Throughout, we will pay particular attention to our
existing and emergent theoretical frameworks, values and beliefs about education and teaching.
OBJECTIVES
The course will aim to:
• cultivate a critical appreciation for the role of reflective practice in teaching
• continue developing the capacity for reflective inquiry
• enhance students' ability to participate in productive large and small group dialogues in a community
of inquiry
REQUIREMENTS
• student-directed inquiry questions - 30%
• active participation in reflective practice groups - 20%
• final paper and self-study -
50%
** Please note: There will be no final examination in this course.
