COURSE DESCRIPTION
The primary purpose of this course is to provide, an opportunity for students to work with adults
in a literacy instruction situation. A secondary objective is to review contemporary literacy
instruction methods and techniques as they apply to literacy situations.
REQUIREMENTS
The course consists of:
a) weekly two-hour discussion meetings
b) thirty hours of practicum
Student evaluation will be based on:
• Completion of all practicum hours, as agreed to with the instructor, and writing of
required reports - 50%
• Observation of practicum sessions by the instructor - 25%
• Attendance to and participation in all class discussions - 25%

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The literacy practicum is the vehicle through which students in the Certificate in Literacy instruction implement and
evaluate the model of adult literacy instruction developed in Educ 342. Implementation may occur in a variety of contexts
and institutions with adults; the literacy practicum will be supervised and may involve supervised teaching, curriculum
developments, or research field work.
The course consists of:
a)
weekly two-hour class meetings
b)
thirty hours of practicum
Practicum locations and times to be decided during the first class.
