DESCRIPTION
The course is intended to introduce various theories of career and vocational counselling,
adjustment, and development. This course focuses particularly on those established theories that
have been key in the development of career education curricula and in the practice of career
counselling.
OBJECTIVES
1.
Students can expect to learn established theories of vocational psychology that have influenced
the field of career counselling and career education.
2.
Students will have an opportunity to critique, compare, and contrast the various theories in
order to explore their usefulness in career practice and education.
3.
Students will explore how career exploration and counselling is applied to the needs of various
unique groups in society (e.g., women, youth, and people with disabilities).
4.
Students will have the opportunity to learn how the various theories impact practice by
applying theoretical concepts to the understanding of their own and others' career paths.
REQUIREMENTS
Grading will be based on written assignments, mid-term exam, class presentations, and class
participation.
