DESCRIPTION
This course will introduce the student to contemporary approaches to classroom management and
discipline. Aimed at fostering a critical perspective, the primary goals of this course are to: 1) encourage
students to examine and clarify their own values in relation to various theories of classroom
management and discipline; and 2) learn a variety of practical teaching strategies and skills for
developing positive learning environments, preventing problems, and dealing effectively with discipline
issues.
EVALUATION
Final Grades will be based on a number of criteria including a combination or all of the following:
• Weekly Reflective Journal Entries on Readings and Class Material
• Small Group Presentation
• Term Paper on Personal Approach to Classroom Management and Discipline
• Final Exam
