COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The major goal of the course is to enable students to comprehend the basic principles and tenets of a
number of management approaches and to translate these principles into specific teaching strategies and
skills.
Overarching Understanding:
The teacher is the decisive element of the "climate" in the classroom.
Essential Understandings:
• There are many models of classroom management that have been proposed (and used)
emphasizing different values and goals.
• The process of change is often difficult, particularly when it involves making a behavioral change.
• Classroom management is part of a bigger picture in schools and school districts.
• As teaching is an expression of self (Palmer), so also is classroom management.
