PREREQUISITE:
EDUC 401/402 or one of EDUC 100, 220, 230, 240.
This course introduces participants to various models of classroom management. In this process, participants
will be encouraged to assess these models while at the same time examining and clarifying their own beliefs
regarding classroom management. This investigation coupled with an examination of management strategies
will provide a basis for organizing worthwhile and productive learning experiences. Various strategies such as
case studies, small group discussions and critical analysis will be used to investigate a variety of issues related to
classroom management such as the use of power and authority, implementing cooperative learning and the role
of student choice.
EVALUATION
Final grades will be based on a variety of tasks that may include some or all of the following:
• Small group in-class presentation
• Self-evaluation
• Teacher/administrator interview
• Case study response
• Development of a management plan
• Final exam
