PREREQUISITE:
EDUC 220 or equivalent and 60 credit hours or permission of the instructor.
Students who have credit for Educ 425 cannot take Educ 323 for further credit.
Course description:
This course is designed to introduce the student to the major theories underlying the work of counsellors
and educators working with persons with emotional and/or behavioral difficulties. The course will
examine theories of counselling and psychotherapy including theories based on psychodynamic,
existential, cognitive-behavioral, systemic, feminist, multicultural and developmental frameworks.
Students will have an opportunity to examine these perspectives and their relation to counselling
strategies and interventions.
Evaluation:
Assignments in the course will provide students with an opportunity to become familiar with a variety
of theoretical approaches and their implications and applications to human behavior and experience.
Detailed descriptions of assignments will be distributed at the first class.
