EDUC 220 or equivalent and 60 credit hours. Students who have credit for Educ
425
cannot take Educ 323 for further credit.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to introduce the student to theories undergirding the work of counsellors and
teachers working with children with emotional difficulties. The course will cover theories based on
existential, behavioral, dynamic and systemic frameworks.
Students will have an opportunity to examine these perspectives and their relation to counselling
strategies and interventions. The course will offer a combination of lectures, seminars and offer an
opportunity to apply of these theoretical lenses to case histories drawn from history and literary sources.
Evaluation will be base on student presentation (30%), brief position papers (20%), and a term
assignment
(50%).
