Prerequisite:
Educ. 220 or equivalent and 60 credit hours. Students who have credit for Educ. 425 cannot take Educ. 323 for further credit.
Course description:
This course is designed to introduce students to counseling theories which underlie the work of counselors and teachers. The
course will focus on teachers and counselors working with children with emotional difficulties, but the course will also be useful for
teachers in general as they establish rapport and a relationship with their students. The course will cover material based on
existential/humanistic, behavioural, dynamic and dynamic theories. The course will also cover some basic developmental issues of
students.
Evaluation:
Evaluation will be based on a specific case analysis (30%), a personal position paper (30%), and a term paper describing the

tegratjon of counseling theories to the classroom experience (40%).
