Description:
This course provides a unique opportunity to introduce students to academic life. From the student's
perspective, university is a complex and rigorous academic environment that demands rapid and
effective accommodation to new contexts for studying. This course provides opportunity to have
professionals create the most conducive and success-driven means possible for each student.
The course becomes a mini community, safe and protective, filled with compassion and expertise, where
students will be presented with a variety of opportunities to better understand themselves and become
situated in the academic world in which they find themselves.
Key to the learning is a focus on writing in the expressive and narrative modes. Students will be
engaged in on-going dialogue and writing throughout the course. Activities are structured to foster self
confidence, creativity, a sense of community, and commitment.

will be based on the following:
