COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is an interactive and hands-on introduction to learning and teaching with computer
technologies, for students considering careers in K-12 teaching. Each session combines
lecture/discussion with demonstrations and lab work on course assignments. Through readings,
discussion and practical assignments, the course aims to introduce students to some of the major social,
cultural and instructional issues surrounding the use of computing and communications technologies in
schools. It is expected that you will gain some concrete ideas about how to integrate technology into
your teaching, and the confidence, knowledge and skills to pursue further learning on your own.
REQUIREMENTS
A course web site with details on assignments from a previous offering is at
httl?://www.sfu.ca/educ260/
• You will need to have Internet access to complete many of the assignments in this course.
Therefore, you must have internet access at home or be on campus at least 2-3 times during the
week.
• An email list will be maintained for course announcements and Q&A items. The list uses only
your SFU email account; thus you will need to have an active SFU email account and check it
throughout the week.
• Many written submissions must be made through Turnitin.com
. Instructions on how to do this
will be given in class.
