PREREQUISITE
You will need to have Internet access to complete many of the assignments in this course.
Therefore, you must have Internet access at home or be on campus at least 2-3 times during the
week. As well, there will be some assignments that will require specific software applications
available on computers in the Faculty of Education Centre for Educational Technology (CET).
You will, therefore, need to schedule some time to work in the CET outside of class time.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to be interactive and hands-on. It will provide an exciting beginning
experience for those who desire to integrate technology into classroom teaching. The course is also
meant to introduce you to some of the social, cultural and instructional issues surrounding the
use of technology in Education through formal and informal discussions. The broad goal of the
course is to empower pre-service and in-service teachers to begin to use computer (primarily)
technologies from a basis of comfort, interest and meaning. As this is an introductory course, we
will not achieve great depth, however it is expected that you will leave this course with the
confidence to pursue further learning on your own and some concrete ideas about how to
integrate technology into your teaching.
REQUIREMENTS
3 Portfolios - due at the beginning, middle and end of the course. Each portfolio will contain
reading activities and application activities and a short written reflection on your learning to
that point. (25% each for a total of 75%)
• A Position Paper - Each individual will select as a paper topic some aspect of one of the issues
discussed in class surrounding the use of technology in Education. (25%)
