course for credit.
Description
This course will be of interest to students who wish to gain greater understanding of the importance of
reflection in personal and professional growth. Through reading, writing, discussions, and classroom
activities, students will be exposed to various educational issues and ideas. A central means of entry to
deeper and more complex ways of thinking will be through engaging with literature and narrative
writing. We will move through several phases: first, exploring self development and recognizing who
we are and how it influences the way we see others; secondly, focusing on how we communicate
meaning and negotiate relationships; and finally, how we as educators can work towards inclusion,
acceptance and affirmation of all people. This course will especially appeal to students who hope to
enter teaching, caring and creative fields.
Course requirements
Students are expected to attend each class, actively participate in discussions and group activities, post
weekly on a blog/maintain a reading log, develop one longer paper and compile a portfolio of writing.
There is no final exam in this course.
