COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course will provide opportunities for prospective teachers to begin their development as reflective
practitioners. Through readings, classroom activities and discussions, and interactions with students and
practicing teachers, students will be exposed to various educational issues and questions. We will
explore the academic literature on reflective practice in teaching as well as engaging in reflective practice
ourselves, paying particular attention to our theoretical frameworks, values and beliefs about education
and teaching.
OBJECTIVES
The course will aim to:
• cultivate a critical appreciation for the role of reflective practice in teaching
• foster the capacity for reflective inquiry
• enhance students' ability to participate in productive large and small group dialogues in a community

REQUIREMENTS
• weekly reflective journal - 50%
• active participation in reflective practice groups - 20%
• final paper/presentation - 30%
** Please note: There will be no final examination in this course.
