Course Description:
Educ. 250-3 is a study of major trends in educational practice from antiquity
to the present. This course may be applied towards the certificate in liberal
arts, Breadth-Humanities/Social Sciences.
Students enrolled in this section of Educ.
250-3
will read a selection of
historical, biographical, and theoretical material tracing the development of
Western Education from Ancient Greece to modern times. Successful
students will develop an appreciation of the continuities and changes in
education over the past 2500 years. In addition, they will develop an
historical perspective on the educational practices in schools today.
Evaluation:
Final Grades will be based on four papers (800 words each)
commenting on and comparing educational theory and practices of
different historical periods.
