OBJECTIVES
1.
To encourage students to develop a more profound understanding of
schooling as a social institution.
2.
To study the effects current social issues are having on the structure
and function of the school systems across Canada and
particularly in
B.C.
3.
To apply informed analytical skills to former notions about schooling
and to think creatively about the application of recent research in
education.
PROCEDURE.
The course will consist of: lectures by both the instructor and selected
guests, group discussions and analyses of pertinent topics, issues and ideas,
a panel discussion by representatives of a variety of local stakeholders in
our school system, and the use of other resources such as films, etc., that
will stimulate discussion and promote the broadening of our perspective on
issues impacting on educational institutions.
