    The course will focus on the school as a social
    institution and then examine social issues that
    impinge on the school; for example, the struggle
    for control of education, rights in school, equality
    of educational opportunity, cultural pluralism,
    accountability, sex-role stereotyping, compulsory
    education, reform and reaction in education.
