    COURSE DESCRIPTION:
    This course, open to
    all
students, is intended to introduce students to the
philosophy of education. This will be accomplished by actually engaging in
philosophical thought about education. After a brief introduction to
philosophy, we will tackle several problems faced by teachers, parents and
other citizens involved in the educational enterprise. We will consider the
nature of education, teaching and learning, planning educational curricula,
indoctrination, educational authority and moral education. The focus will be
on developing clearer understanding of the complex issues faced by the
modern educator. It should be of interest not only to those who intend to
pursue careers as professional educators, but also to anyone who has an
    interest in education.
