COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is an introductory course in Philosophy of Education. Its most general
objectives are to offer the student familiarization with the philosophical dimension
of educational theory. This will be accomplished by actually engaging in
philosophical thought about education. After a brief introduction to the nature of
philosophical thought, we will tackle several problems faced by teachers, parents
and other citizens involved in the educational enterprise, the focus will always be
on developing clearer understanding of the complex issues faced by the modern
educator.

INTRODUCTION TO PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
This course is intended to provide prospective teachers, as well as students with a
general interest in education, an opportunity to examine critically a variety of
philosophical issues in contemporary education. It also aims to provide students with
an understanding of the philosophical method of inquiry into educational questions.
This course is divided into five broad units, as follows:

The Nature of Philosophical Inquiry into Education

An Analysis of the Concept of Education
3.
The Nature of Knowledge
4.
Teaching, Learning, and Social Issues in Education
5. Moral Education/The Justification of Education
