COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The focus of this course is on educational psychology with an emphasis on

psychological processes involved in learning and motivation in school settings.

Recent advances in research and development will be discussed in each of several

major topics:

The Nature of Educational Psychology

Motivation Theory

Memory and Cognition

Instructional Methods and Classroom Processes

Instructional Psychology of School Subjects

Measurement and Evaluation

ASSIGNMENTS:

Students will be required to complete the following assignments:

1.

Two short papers (maximum of three typed, double-spaced pages) on assigned

topics. These papers will require you to demonstrate understanding of

contemporary psychological issues in education. Each paper is worth 12

points.

2.

A tutoring project worth 28 points. The tutoring project is designed for you to

apply principles of educational psychology in an instructional setting. You will

be required to tutor a child, adult, or small group and write a report about the

teaching and learning that took place.

3.

One midterm exam (24 points) and one final exam (24 points) covering the

lectures and readings.
