COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is an introductory course aimed at beginning students who may or may not be interested in
pursuing educational studies. Together we will identify and examine questions and issues relating to the
concept or idea of education. Situating our inquiry within the context of a global village and the
postmodern world we will consider concepts relating to learning and the learner, teaching and the
teacher, education and spirituality, contemplative pedagogy, and the role 'living inquiry' plays in our
lives as educators, students and human beings. Students will engage in collaborative and self-reflective
practice exploring the complex dynamics that mold and shape our lives and perspectives on education.
The course models a range of learning experiences, including: communal sites of learning, generative
dialogue, circle dynamics, contemplative inquiry, storytelling, individual and group presentations,
reflective practice and writing to learn.
