COURSE DESCRIPTION
• This is an introductory course intended for beginning students who may be interested in but not necessarily
already committed to, pursuing educational studies.
• We will explore a small but representative sample of questions and issues relating to: the concept or idea of
education; learning and the learner, the teacher and a teaching life; and the broader contexts of education in
the global village and the postmodern world.
• You will examine questions relating to: the concept or idea of education; learning and the learner,
teaching and the teacher; disciplines and discourse of education; and the broader contexts of
education in the global village and the postmodern world.
• The course models a range of instructional strategies, including: discussion; reflective practice; story; case
studies; in-class exercises.
• The course offers a range of learning experience, including: discussion; reading and responding orally and
in writing; research and field —work.
ORGANIZATION
Tuesday and Thursday classes.
First class online discussions.
REQUIRMENTS
Regular attendance, preparation, thoughtful participation. —25%
Informal and formal written responses —40%
Short presentations - 15%
Final exam - 20%
