FROM:
FPA 120-3 Introduction to Contemporary Popular Dance Forms
A studio course devoted to the development of movement skills through popular dance,
within the context of contemporary dance as an art form. May be
of particular interest to
students in other departments.
TO:
FPA 120-3 Introduction to Dance Forms: Contemporary and Popular
A studio course devoted to the development of movement skills through specific styles of
dance. The content of the course changes every semester including techniques in
Bhangra, Afro-Caribbian, Hip Hop and Contemporary. May only be taken twice for
credit. May be of particular interest to students in other departments.
If Title Change, indicate:
a) Long Title for calendar/schedule: max. 100 characters, including spaces/punctuation:
FPA 120-3 Introduction to Dance Forms: Contemporary and Popular
b) Short Title for enrolment/transcript: max. 30 characters, including spaces/punctuation:
Introduction to Dance Forms
RATIONALE:
FPA 120-3 is a course for non-dance majors. Since its creation, this course has been very
popular and filled to capacity, but there has been some confusion about the content of the
course based on the title and how it is advertised. The new title and description will
allow for more accuracy and alert students to the rotating content.
If this course replicates the content of a previously approved course to the extent that students should not
receive credit for both courses, this should be noted in the prerequisite.
Effective term and year: Fall 2012
