Revision of G.G.R. 1.7.6
Motion
That SGSC recommend to Senate that graduate course credits completed as part of a SFU graduate
diploma, prior to admission to a master's program, be applied to the requirements for the degree provided
a minimum grade of "B" was achieved in the course, and that no more than 50 percent of the overall
degree course requirements are completedby advance credit.
Rationale
Presently, both the Beedie School of Business and the Faculty of Education have graduatediplomas that
are designed to ladder into their professional master's programs. At present, students either do not apply
to receive their credential until they have made a decision as to whether they wish to pursue their master's
degree (sometimeswaiting as long as three years) or the academic unit requests a waiver of the courses in
the master's program for those courses completed as part
of the diploma program. The change to the GGR
1.7.6 proposed in the motion would address the laddering of certificates or diploma's at the graduate level
in a formal way. In addition, SGSC feels that courses completed up to three years previously should be
considered for advance credit and thus has proposed that the regulation reflect this change from two
years.
