Senate received information that the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Studies, acting under
delegated authority, approved new courses, a deleted course, and minor changes to existing
courses in the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology (Interactive Arts & Technology,
Publishing, Contemporary Arts)

Curriculum Revisions – Faculty of Science (S.11-99)
Senate received information that the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Studies, acting under
delegated authority, approved new courses and minor revisions to existing courses and programs
in the Faculty of Science (Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry).
Clarification was requested and provided in regards to CHEM 109 and its availability to only
students in the Aboriginal Pre-Health Program.

Senate received information that the Senate Graduate Studies Committee, acting under delegated
authority, approved minor revisions to an existing course in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Senate received information that the Senate Graduate Studies Committee, acting under delegated
authority, approved new courses and minor changes to programs in the Faculty of Science
(Biomedical Physiologv and Kinesiology, Molecular Biology and Biochemistrv, Physics).

Elections by Senate (S.11-102)
Senate received a summary of the online election results and outstanding vacancies for the Senate
committees.
8.
Other Business
i)
Accreditation Self-Evaluation Report (S.11-103)
Senate received Simon Fraser University’s Self-Evaluation report for the Northwest Commission
on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) for advice. Glynn Nicholls, KC Bell and Lynda
Erickson, were in attendance to respond to questions.
A question was raised regarding reference to student representation on the Board of Governors
(p.46). Senate was informed that this will be looked into to confirm whether the information is
correct or not. An opinion was expressed that the uniqueness of SFU’s Intellectual Property
policy should be emphasized more. Senate was informed that the wording on p. 59 regarding the
IP policy will be reviewed. After a question was raised regarding an error on p.52 regarding the
Chair of Senate, Senate was informed that this had already been corrected. Clarification was
requested for section 1.3 on p. 24 regarding the wording “industrial grants” and Senate was
informed that it should be modified to read “industrial grants and/or contracts”.
