Background

At its July 11, 2007 meeting SCUP reviewed and approved the terms of reference

for the Chair in Health Disparities in Cancer At its September 17, 2007

meetmg, Senate approved lnd recommended to the Board of Governors chose

terms. The Board approved chis recommendation at its September 25. 2007

meeting.

Smce that time, The BC Cancer Foundation has contributed S2 5 mIllion in

endowed funding in support of the Chair, in lddltJon to $40,000

fund1Og. In March. the Be Cancer Foundation committed an addltionll 51

milhon from private donors (Gordon and Leslie Diamond). A new Letter of

Understanding and revised Terms

have been drlfted, changing the focus of the

research from Health Disparities to Cancer SurvivorshIp. and naming the Chair

the

Leslie Di:llnond Chair in Cancer SUf\'lvorship, in honour of their donation

Gordon and Leslie Diamond

are longstanding supporters of Simon Fraser

Universiry, and generous donors to the university and to numerouS charitable

organizltions in the Lower

l\hinland. The Diamonds were honoured with SFU's

Distinguished Community Leadership Award 1/1 2009.
