4.4
Field Schools Report
4.4.1 France Field School will not run again.
4.4.2 Field School Directors must update itineraries daily, carry international satellite phones with them
at all times and remain with the Field
School during its entire duration.

SFU Legal has created a new liability policy with
regard to driving abroad.
4.5
Field Schools Review
4.5.1.
Participation peaked in 2006 with 136 Field School participants.

Student Exchange
5.1
For the 200911 0 academic year, 309 students applied to participate in the University's
international bilateral and multilateral exchange programs (a decrease of 8% from 336
students in
2008/09).
5.2
Of the 309 applicants, 22% (69) were incomplete applications or were not approved (compared
with 24% (81) in 2008/09), and 13% (41) of applicants cancelled after SFU International's
selection (compared with 14%) (46) in 2008/09).
5.3
SFU International selected 78% (240 out of the 309 students) of applicants to participate
(compared with 76% (255 out of 336) in 2008/09).
5.4
Of those selected to participate, 83% (199) went on exchanges (compared with 820/0 (209 out of
336) in 2008/09). The 199 exchange students completed a total of 245 exchange terms since some
students participated for multiple terms (compared with 243 exchange terms in 2008/09).
5.5
From 2008/09 to 2009/10 the number of students going on exchanges decreased by 5%
(209 to 199), but the total number of exchange terms increased by 1% (243 to 245).
6.
International Co-op Program
SFU students completed 114 co-op work practicums in 32 countries through the Co-op Program.

The Committee shall meet at least once each semester and at the call of the Chair.
Quorum shall be a simple majority
of the voting members.
The Committee may strike sub-committccs as required.
6.3 Terms of Reference
I
6.3.1 To ensure that proposals for international activities meet the conditions and criteria
established by the University Policy on International Activities, and the University Policy on
Service Contracts.
6.3.2 To ensure broad consultation prior to the final approval of any proposal covered by this
policy for which human rights considerations are likely to be a concern.

6.3.3 To advise the President with respect to the desirability of entering into international
activities that are proposed to be undertaken by the University on the basis
of a contract,
contribution agreement, letter
of understanding, or similar document.
6.3.4 To maintain an overview and familiarity with international agreements that are entered into
by academic
or administrative units.
6.3.5 To report annually to Senate.
6.4 Procedures
6.4.1 The Committee shall be provided with copies of international actlvlty proposals and
whatever other information is needed to administer this Policy, based on procedures to be
determined by the Committee.
6.4.2 Every proposal shall indicate that it has the approval
of the appropriate Chair or Director,
and Faculty Dean and shall contain a statement
of goals and objectives, a clear disclosure of the
proposed activities and a budget.
6.4.3 Proposals shall be submitted to the Secretary
of SClA for distribution to the Committee.
6.4.4 The Committee shall review each proposal to ensure compliance with the University Policy
on International Activities and shall recommend acceptance, modification or rejection to the
President. Where approval
of the Senate or the Board of Governors is required, the President shall
inform the appropriate body(ies)
of the Committee's recommendation.
6.4.5 Where there is concern on the part
of SCIA that any international activity which uses the
University's name or resources may be in non-compliance with this Policy, the Committee shall
be entitled to receive further information and shall report
to the President regarding any violations
that may be discovered.
6.4.6 Copies
of international activity contracts or other agreements shall be provided to SFU
International where they shall be kept on file and be open for inspection by members of the
University community.
Interpretation
Questions of Policy interpretation or application shall be referred to the President whose decision shall be
final.
