Concentration name change to Operations Management
Ratioual.e:
The
name "management science" is
dated
and unsuitable as it does not reflect the
specific skills
and learning that our undergraduates specialize
in.
It is an inappropriately broad
label
for our teacl,;ng concentration.
If
we look
at
the journal Management Science which is the
top outlet
for scholarship
in
this area, it states that management science covers "all aspects of
management
related
to
strategy,
entrepreneurship,
innovation,
information
technology,
and
organizations as well as
all
functional areas of business, such as accounting, finance
t
marketing,
and operations". The 300 and 400 level courses
in
the MS concentration focus only on the last
functionality listed
in
this quote - operations management Furthermore
t
by changing the
concentration name to "operations management" it
is
more closely aligned with recognized
careers and professions in supply
chain
management, logistics, service operations, and
purchasing.
