to go to Senate and the Board
of Governors as soon as possible.
The WilliamJ.A. Rowe EMBA Alumni Endowment Fund (the "Fund") was established in 2010
with a transfer of funds from the Executive 1-fBA Alumni Endowment fund, at the direction of the
EMBA Alumni Endowment
Fund Advi.sory Committee. The new Fund was created and named to
honour
Ivrr.
William J .A. Rowe, who graduated from the ENIDA program in 1972. rvfr. Rowe passed
away in May
2010.

Terms of Reference
The WilliamJ.A. Rowe EMBA Alumni Endowment Fund (the "Endowment Fund" or
"Fund
U
)
was established in 2010 with a transfer of funds from the Executive MBA Alumni
Endowment fund, at the direction of the EMBA Alumni Endowment Fund Advisory
Committee. The new Fund was created and named to honour Mr. WilliamJ.A. Rowe,
who graduated from the EMBA program in 1972. Mr. Rowe was born in Portage La
Prairie,
MB, and worked for many years in senior management at Air Canada. Mr. Rowe
served on SFU's Senate, Board of Governors, and EMBA Advisory Connnittee. He
received the Chancellor's Distinguished Service Award in 1995 and an Outstanding
Alumni Award
in 1996. When he died in May 2010, Mr. Rowe was a falniliar and well
loved member of the SFU alunmi community, and a trusted advisor to the EMBA
program.
Purpose of the Endowment
The purpose of the Executive MBA Alumni Endowment Fund was to provide "support
for the EMBA Programs and the EMBA Alumni Endowment Fund Entrance Scholarship
Award, (now called
the EMBA Alumni Scholarships}." With the approval of the EMBA
Alumni Endowment Fund Advisory Committee, the capital in the Fund will be used to
create the
new William
J
.A. Rowe EMBA Alumni Professorship, and to supplement the
capital
in the Dennis F. Culver EMBA Alumni Professorship) so that the Culver and
Rowe endowments are of equal value. The EMBA Alumni Scholarships will henceforth
be funded by the Faculty of Business and by donations.
The purpose of the WilliamJ.A. Rowe EMBA Alunlni Professorship (the "Professorship")
is to promote excellence in research and teaching in the Faculty of Business. Income from
the Fund will be used to provide salary supplements and research expenses for a qualified
scholar
who will be awarded the Professorship in the Faculty of Business Administration.
Fund Administration
The Endowment Fund will be held by Simon Fraser University. The administrator of the
Fund will be the Vice President, Acadetnic. Donations to the Endownlent Fund rnay be
received through
Simon Fraser University.
The capital of the Endowment Fund will be held in perpetuity.
A
portion of annual
earned income may
be reinvested in the Endowment Fund to protect its value over time
when overall endowment earnings exceed the University's disbursement quota, as
stipulated in Endowment Management Policy GP 20 (the "Policy"). Also as established
by
the Policy) a portion of annual earned income will be used each year to support the

activities of the William J .A. Rowe EMBA Alunmi Professor. including teaching and
research.
In the event that circunlstances make the specified use of the Endowment Fund no longer
practicable
or desirable, the Board of Governors of Simon Fraser University is hereby
authorized to make any changes
it may deen} necessary in the terms or use of the
Endowment Fund, such changes,
however
t
to be in keeping as far as possible with the
original spirit and general interest
of the Endowment Fund.
AppDintment
Simon Fraser University seeks to appoint a tenure track faculty member to the William
J.A. Rowe EMBA Alumni Professorship.
The appointment will be for a five (5) year renewable term. The appointment and any
renewal
will be concluded in accordance with University policies.
