Background
The
BC ministry
of Education
is implementing changes
to
the Mathematics 10-12 curriculum
starting
Fall
2010. Over the next three
years,
the current Math
courses,
Applications, Essentials
and
Principles
of
Math, will close
and
be replaced by the new Ministry courses, Apprenticeship
and workplace
Math,
Foundations
of
Math, and Pre-Calculus.
This
motion is based
on
the recommendation
from
Dr. Tom Archibald
,
past
Chair
of
the
Department
of Mathematics
and is
supported
b
y
Peter Liljedahl, post-secondary representative to
the BC
Association
of
Mathematics Teachers
.
Since the motion was first brought to SCUS in
January
2010, consultation has also
occurred with
Dr. Manfred Trurnmer, current
Chair
of the
Dept.
of Mathematics and Dr. Malgorzata Dubiel who was involved in the initial implementation
ofQ requirements. Both Dr. Trummer
and
Dr. Dubiel
support
the recommendations of Dr.
Archibald
and
Dr. Liljedahl.
