Dear Mr. Robertson,

Thank you for your letter of September 20th. I am

very glad to 1ea:i that the Senate of Simon Fraser University

has approved the membership of your Institution in SACU.

.

Please let me assure the Senate, through you, that the

reservation expressed to the effect that the University has not

"in any way committed itself to - usin g the tests developed by

this Service" is perfectly valid and acceptable. From the outset

it has been clearly stated and understood that no member of SACU

would be under any obligation whatsoever to use tests developed

by the Service. The following is a quotation from the establishing

proposal:

"There was no thought that any test; developed be

used as the sole criterion for admitting students

to university, or that the tests should replace

any of the present criteria unless so desired by

individual universities"

I hope that this statement will help to clarify any

misgivings which may have been felt by members of your Senate.
