SUBJECT: EXPIRY DATES FOR TERMS OF SENATORS

Senate should decide the terms of office for those Senators elected last November.
(1)
THE ACT: 24 (1) Membrs of Senate shall hold office for a period of 3ears
and until their successors are appointed or elected.
(2)
THE RULES OF PROCEDURE OF SENATE
The terms of office of Senators shall be as outlined in the
Act, with the additional proviso that the term of office shall
be taken to mean from the nearest June 1, which shall be the
time new members take office.
(3)
The Faculties and Joint Faculty in November, 1965, elected members for 3 years,
2 years, and 1 year, in order to give some turnover during the 3 years and
obviate a complete turnover 3 years hence.

The replacements for these 1 year appointments would be elected
nominally for 3 years, but actually from December 1, 1966, to
May 30, 1969.
The above schedule truncates the 3 year and 2 year terms to 2 years and 1 1 i years
respectively.
The other elected Senators, i.e. the 6 from Convocation, were appointed June 1st,
so their terms are now on schedule and expire May 30, 1969.
