ENSC request for Calendar change:
Effective date:
2011-12 Calendar
- Daniel C. Lee dchlce((Usfu.ca
July 7, 2010
a) Change the SFU calendar wording for: "Degree Requirements - Meng Program course
work":
From: "MEng candidates complete at least 21 graduate course units. All students complete
ENSC 820, specialize in an area of study, and complete required courses as follov{s.
Students specializing in communications complete ENSC 805, ENSC 810; electronics
v
specialization students complete one ofENSC 851, ENSC 852 or ENSC 853; ...... "
F AS GPC proposal
To: "MEng candidates complete 21 graduate course units, in addition to the Project course.
All students complete ENSC
820, specialize in an area of study, and complete required
,
courses as follows. Students specializing in communications complete ENSC 805, ENSC
V'
810; electronics specialization students complete one of ENSC 851, ENSC 852 or ENSC
853; ...... "
Rationale:
It
was very unclear before whether the project course was part of the required
21 units or not, and we have had a problem \vith this.
b) Change in
SFU calendar wording for: '"Transfer from the Master's Program to the PhD
Program":
From: "Proceeding to a PhD program without completing a master's degree is
discouraged. However, a student may be admitted after at least 12 months in the M.A.Sc
v'
program if all requirements have been completed with a 3.67 or better CGPA, outstanding
potential for research has been shown, and
... "
To: "Proceeding to a PhD program without conlpleting a
master~s
degree is discouraged.
However, a student may be admitted after at least
12 months in the MASc program if all
non-thesis course requirements have been completed with a 3.67 or better
CGP A,
outstanding potential for research has been shown, and
... "
Rationale: It was not clear what \\las meant by "all requirements" in the current calendar-
OPC committee feels this is clearer for students.
