Action undertaken by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Studies at its meeting of
June
3, 2010, gives rise to the following recommendation:
Motion
That Notices of Intent (NOls) for program proposals be brought forward to SCUS
for consideration before being forwarded to SCUP,
Rationale
SCUS's mandate includes the authority to "review and make recommendations to SCUP
regarding new programs and credentials." Current practice has NOls coming to SCUS
for information at the same time as they are directed to SCU P for approval. This
sometimes results in an NOI being discussed and approved by SCUP before SCUS has
an
opportunity to provide comment. SCUS believes that the comments and feedback
arising from its discussion should inform SCUP's decision.
Currently, the SGSC receives and discusses NOls before they are forwarded to SCUP.
SCUS
proposes that the two curriculum committees follow parallel processes when
considering
NOls. This change would be effective irnnlediately.
