1) Whereas it is
theeXPreSs responsibility of Senate to deal with
matters pertaining to the academic quality of education at the
University . .
and Whereas the current labour dispute at SFU has severely disrupted
a pumber of courses Offered by this institution, reduced the
number and quality of acadernic.serViCeS available on campus
normally expected to maintain academic standards, endanqered
the morale of-both faculty and students, and has the potential to
seriously disrupt the grading process should the dispute be
prolonged;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT: Senate recognize that the
current
ur_management dispute has had a setiere impact on the
quality of education at SFU and that Senate express its concern
over
the disruption of the educational process and the desir-
ability of the maintenance of recognized academic standards,
and request the President to relay this concern to the parties
involved in the dispute, and to express the view of Senate that
these factors should be considered in the bargaining process.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT: Senate request the President to
inform the Ministry of Education of the position taken b
y
this
body.
2) Whereas
student tuition fees constitute 10% of the University's
budget;
and Whereas students are hard-hit academically and denied services
that they would normally recieve;
and Whereas
it is
the responsibility of Senate to see to matters
of financial aid;
THEREFORE BE IT
RESOLVED,-THAT: Senate recommend to the
Board of Governors that 10% of the money saved due to the
strike
be returned
to students in the form of a contribution
to the University
Center Building Bursary Fund.
