    1.
    General Education
    On the recommendation of the Faculty of Education, the Senate
    established a Coordinating Committee on General Education. The
    membership on the committee shall consist of seven Faculty members
    and the Coordinating Secretary. The Coordinating Secretary shall
    be a non-voting member. The Faculty members shall serve on the.
    Committee for a period of two years. The committee shall elect
    its
    own Chairman. The Faculty representativesshall be as follows:
    one representative of each Centre in the Faculty of Education,
    two representatives from each of the Faculty of Arts and the
    Faculty of Science.
    The duties of the committee shall be to review the programs
    being offered in General Education in the University and be respon-
    sible for recommending extensions or revisions to. the existing
    General Education program. The Coordinating Secretary shall dis-
    seminate information about the General Education program to Faculty
    and students, assist in locating facilities within the University
    for General Education offerings, survey programs being offered,
    solicit recommendations for extensions to the program, and act as
    .
    Secretary to the Committee. In addition to these duties,, the com-
    mittee is empowered to discuss the general problem of liberality
    in
    the curriculum of the three 'Faculties, and to coordinate the
    activities in the three Faculties and develop general University
    policy in this area.
    Senate also decided to drop the requirement of two General
    Education courses in the first four semesters. Although the new
    Calendar containing this information will not be in effect until
    the Summer Semester 1967, it was agreed that the General Education
    courses requirement in the previous calendar would not be enforced
    to the strict letter of the law in the current semester if students
    had any problems fitting the General Education requirement into
    their academic program.
    2.
    Ad Hoc Committee on Interdisciplinary Programs
    The Ad Hoc Committee on Interdisciplinary Programs had been
    unable to conclude its deliberations regarding the interdisciplinary
    program in the Study of Human Movement. The Senate decided to
    reserve its discussion of this program until the February meeting
    when it would have the report of the Ad Hoc Committee. •

    Undergraduate Calendar 1967-68
    The draft calendar as prepared by the various Faculties and
    the meeting of the Joint Faculty and the Senate Committee on Under-
    graduate Calendar Revision was approved with certain minor amendments.
    Graduate Calendar 1967-68
    The draft graduate calendar as prepared by the various Faculties
    and the Senate Committee on Graduate Studies was approved with certain
    minor amendments.
    Both the Undergraduate and Graduate Calendars should be avail-
    able for distribution by the end of February.
    New Appointments to the Joint Board of Teacher Education
    For the past three years, C. J. Frederickson and R. Baker had
    been the University representatives on the Joint Board of Teacher
    Education.
    The Senate approved the appointment of W. Vidaver and F. Cunningham
    to replace C. J. Frederickson and R. Baker.
    Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees
    W. Williams was named to replace T. H. Brose as a member of this
    committee.
    Academic Planning
    The President said that he had established an advisory committee
    on
    long-range academic planning consisting of the Dean of each Faculty,
    one additional member from each Faculty, one member from the Board
    of Governors, one lay member of the Senate, and the Director of Uni-
    versity Affairs.
    W. Hamilton was appointed as the Senatth representative on the
    long-range academic planning committee.
    Program for Convocation Founders
    The President told Senate that there hadbeenno official visit
    from the Visitor, the Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable George R.
    Pearkes, since the installation ceremonies and also nothing had been
    done to bring Convocation Founders on campus for well over a year.

    Date of Next Meeting
    The next meeting of Senate will be Monday, the 6th of February,
    1967. Items known at this time which will be on the February agenda

    are the report of the Senate Committee on Interdisciplinary Programs,
    report on the Interdisciplinary Program on the Study of Human Move-
    ment, and also the report from the Committee to study student
    representation and the openness of Senate meetings.
