The Senate welcomed David Berg, R. J. C. Harper, Gerald Sperling,
and Warren Williams, attending their first meeting of Senate as three
year elected representatives of Joint Faculty.

Representation
The Registrar reported that the Committee formed after the last
meeting of Senate to consider these questions was holding meetings
and hope to have a report ready for distribution to Senators before
the January meeting of Senate.
3.
Senate Library Committee
Senate accepted with regret the resignation of Mrs. I. Koerner
from the Library Committee, and elected JL. Dampier to replace her.

Two possible designs were presented, but Senate decided to refer
the matter back to the President's Committee on Works of Art for fur^

C. U. S. 0. Training Program
Senate endorsed T. B. Bottomore's proposal that he and his collegues
undertake the C. U. S. 0. Asian training program in the summer of 1967.
7.
Summer School in Solid State Physics
Senate endorsed R. R. Haering's proposal that he and his collegues
sponsor a summer school in solid state physics in the summer of 1967.
8.
Degree Program in the Study of Human Movement
A proposal to establish an interdisciplinary degreeprogram in
the Study of Human Movement, resulted in the setting up of an ad hoc
committee to bring forward to the next meeting of Senate, recommend-
ations regarding this program and whether or not a B. Sc. should be
granted for it. The members of the ad hoc committee are:

The question of a Gortinuing Senate Committee on Interdisciplinary
Programs was deferred until the next meeting of Senate.
9.
Granting of M. Sc. Degree on Weng-Yek Lee
The M. Sc. Degree (chemistry) was granted to Weng-Yek Lee, who trans-
ferred to Simon Fraser University from the University of Manitoba in the
Fall of 1965 along with his supervisor, A. H. Unrau. Weng-Yek Lee's thesis
is entitled 'Comparative Studies of Amylases in an Alien Genome Combinant'.
10. Committee on Undergraduate Admissions and Standings
The resignation of F. Candelaria from this committee was accepted with
regret and W. Williams was elected in his place. Membership in the Senate
Committee on Undergraduate Admissions and Standings is as follows:

The Faculty of Education presented a proposal regarding General
Education Courses, the major points of which were: that the present
regulations requiring two general education courses be abolished;
that an intergrated general education program composed of credit
courses such as the Communications courses, and non credit general
education services such as Workshops, Open Discussion groups, and
Technical Instructions, be established under the guidance of a
Coordinating Committee on General Education to be established in the
Faculty of Education; that this proposal be effective January 1, 1967.
This recommendation was referred to the Faculties of Arts and
Sciences for comment and will be discussed again at the next Senate
Meeting.
