The Agenda was approved as distributed.

Approval of the Minutes of the Open Session of May 11. 2009
Senate's attention was drawn to Senate paper S.09-72 (Elimination of the Enrolment
Deposit) on page 4, Item B.1 which had been presented to Senate for information. It was
pointed Out that there were two versions of this paper and that the wrong version had
inadvertently been presented to Senate. The correct version which also included graduate
students should have been forwarded to Senate. Since the Board of Governors has already
approved the correct version, and provided Senate has no objection, a Secretary's Note
would be added to the Minutes explaining the error and a revised paper with the correct
information would be filed in official Senate records and on the Web for future reference.
There were no objections from Senate and the Minutes were approved.

Report of the Chair
The Chair welcomed and thanked the newly elected and re-elected Faculty and Student
Senators for undertaking service to the University and acknowledged the following
individuals: Faculty Senators - Maureen Fizzell, Gordon Myers, David Paterson, Paul
Percival, Joseph Peters, Peter Ruben, Robert Russell, Cenk Sahinalp; Student Senators:
Anton Bezglasnyy, Christina Chiu, Elliot Funt,
Eli Gibson, All Godson, Kevin Harding,
Shara Lee, Fiona Li, Alysia MacGrotty, Cnstel Moubarak, Ada Nadison, Ravi Patel,
Joseph Zelezny.
The Chair noted the passing of Arthur Erickson, a recipient of an honorary degree from
Simon Fraser University, and the architect of the original campus of the University. He
was an extraordinary person and a world renowned architect whose name will forever be
linked to Simon Fraser University and SFU mourns his passing.
The Chair indicated that no information had yet been received following the Provincial
election about organizational change or ministerial assignments that might affect higher
education, nor was there any information available as to whether or not there would be
any adjustments to the pre-election budget. The Chair advised Senate that he would
report back as soon as further information was available.

"that Senate approve that effective May 1, 2009 the bracketed distinction
(Kinesiology) be removed from the BSc (KIN) and that students graduating
from the Faculty of Science in the Department of Biomedical Physiology
and Kinesiology receive a.BSc"

Senate received information that the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Studies, acting
under delegated authority, approved changes to the B.Sc. program requirements.

Senate's attention was drawn to Senate Paper S.09-86 Revised which was distributed at
the meeting and showed additional nominations, all positions which were elected by
acclamation, and all positions which required balloting. Balloting was required for some
committees to determine Regular versus Alternate positions in which case the candidate(s)
receiving the higher number of votes holds the Regular position(s); the runner-up(s) the
Alternate position(s). Senators were reminded that voting would take place online
following the Senate meeting and would be accessible for approximately two days.
