Cancellation of Senate Meeting - Monday, June 2, 1997
At the request of Ron Heath, Dean of Student Services and Registrar, the following message is being
forwarded -
Under the provisions of the Elections Act, employees are entitled to three hours for purposes of
casting ballots. Members of Senate may have responsibilities that preclude them from taking that
opportunity to cast their ballot during the day with the consequence that the meeting of Senate as
scheduled may limit their opportunity to vote in the federal election. It is also noted that, while
important, most agenda items were "For Information and could reasonably be held until the next
meeting - of - Senate

June 2, 1997 should be cancelled.
As we have done in the past, the election to Senate Committees that was to have been conducted at the
Senate meeting will proceed by mail ballot. Nominations will remain open until the close of business
(4:30 p.m.) on Friday, May 30 and new nominations must be submitted to the Secretary of the Senate.
Please refer to Senate Paper S.97-47 for the current list of nominees and the positions open for
election. If you are nominating another individual, please ensure that they agree to their being
nominated for the position. They should also be reminded that a "candidate's statement
s
regarding the
candidacy will be circulated with the ballots. All candidate's statements must be received by the
Secretary of Senate no later than Monday, June 2. The mail ballot for all contested positions and the
candidate statements will be distributed to all Senators later in that week.
THE NEXT REGULAR
MEETING
OF SENATE IS SCHEDULED FOR MONDAY, JULY 7, 1997. Additional items for the
July meeting will be required by the Secretary by 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 1997. Submissions
may be emailed to bgrant@sfu.ca
These items will be considered by the Senate Committee on Agenda and
Rules on Tuesday, June 24, 1997 with distribution on Friday, June 27, 1997.
