    Graduate Studies Committee
    A report from the Dean of Graduate Studies providing data on the composition
    of persons recommended for Masters or Doctoral degrees was received by Senate
    for information.
    b)
    Selling and Leasing Back University Assets
    In response to an inquiry regarding updated information on the issue of
    universities selling and leasing back university assets, the Chair reported that
    British Columbia had agreed to a request from the Federal Government to put a
    moratorium on any such activity. In the interim, the Vice-President, Finance has
    been requested by the President to look into the issue.

    and Bursaries was received by Senate for information.

    Task Force on University Size
    Paper S.88-28 - Enrolment Limits: September 1988
    G. Ivany explained that the University Act gives to the Board of
    .
    Governors,
    with approval of Senate, the power to limit enrolment. At the May meeting of the
    Board, a limitation of 3,000 new admission for the Fall Semester was approved and
    the same recommendation is now before Senate for formal approval.
    Moved by R. Saunders, seconded by K. Rieckhoff,
    "that the Registrar set a target of 3,000 new
    admissions for 88-3. Any resulting reductions will
    be accomplished as described in the memo of April
    21, 1988, referred to in S.88-28"
    Following a brief discussion, a proposal to specify that the reduction to new

    admissions pertained to 'undergraduate' students was accepted as a friendly
    amendment.
