    K. Rieckhoff referred to Paper S.80-82 - Literacy, which had
    been expected to be included on the agenda of this meeting, and the
    Secretary explained that the former Chairman of SCUS had been collecting
    data for further Committee deliberation and that the material has not yet
    been placed before the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Studies:

    As part of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of Simon
    Fraser University, September 9, 1980 has been designated for a celebration
    on the Mall when the University community is invited to share a birthday
    cake and to contribute to the Terry Fox cancer fund.

    The first Annual Report of the President,K. G. Pedersen, will
    be published in the September 9, 1980 edition of the Vancouver Sun.

    Preliminary enrolment figures were announced, which indicate an
    increase in the undergraduate head count of between 6% and 7% although
    there is
    ,
    a reduction in the ratio between full time and head counts.
    Graduate figures are not yet complete but appear to indicate an approxi-
    mate increase of 4% over the same semester in 1979.

    In response to concerns expressed by Student Senators, T. Calvert
    and R. Brown gave assurance that the arrangement was compatible to the
    needs of students in the Africa/Middle East Studies Program and offering
    under the aegis of the Program had the full concurrence of DILL. R. Brown
    added that if there is further development in the Arabic language, DLLL
    would assume responsibility, but the current arrangement was the result of
    cooperative efforts between the two units.
