APPROVAL OF AGENDA
?
.
L. Thomas pointed out that the Committee proposing the submissions
outlined under section ii) of Item 5 of the agenda was the Senate Com-
mittee on Undergraduate Studies rather than as noted and, with this
correction, the agenda was approved as distributed.
2.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Moved by K. Rieckhoff, seconded by R. Brown,
"That the minutes of the Open Session of April 2,
1979 be approved as circulated."
Question was called, and a vote taken.
MOTION CARRIED
The newly elected Senators in attendance whose terms of office
commence June 1, 1979 were requested by the Chairman to introduce them-
selves and were welcomed by the assembly. The President stated that he
would be looking forward to the active participation of the new members
and thanked retiring Senators for their contributions.
3.
BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES
J. Weinkam was asked to comment on the report from the Senate Committee
on University Budget, which had been charged with consideration of two motions
which had been proposed in connection with distribution of money saved as a
result of the recent strike. As Chairman of SCTJB, J. Weinkam stated that
three major issues to be addressed had been identified and the Committee
cautioned against taking actions without first considering the long term
financial effects.
G. Pedersen expressed appreciation of a thoughtful and reasonable report
from the Committee which he said was working under difficult conditions because
of limited available information on budget. He noted that steps must be taken
to ensure SPIT's enrolment is comparable with the other two institutions and
that organization of a conference for high school students is already under
way and that the initial work for an Open House to celebrate SFU's 15th
anniversary is to commence.
4.
REPORT OF CHAIRMAN
Senate was advised that agreement has been reached with. AUCE 2 to turn
the unresolved matters over to an Industrial Inquiry Commission and that
negotiations are under way with the Poly Party groups and the Faculty
Association.
The Secretary was asked to make his repert in connection with recent
elections, the details of which follow:
-
