    The Chairman noted that as a result of elections held recently that
    P. Buitenhuja was re-elected by and from the Faculty of Arts to replace W.E.
    illiams for the remainder of term of office from September 1, 1976 to
    ay 31, 1978, and M.P. Hindley was elected by and from Joint Faculty Members

    1. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
    The agenda was approved as distributed.
    2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
    A. Curzon referred to page 5, item 6 of the minutes and suggested that
    the comment be altered to read:
    u S. Aronoff advised Senate that the Faculty of Science had
    not offered any special topics courses during the 76-2 semester."
    With this correction, the minutes of the Open Session of August 9,
    1976, were approved.
    3.
    BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES
    There was no business arising from theminutes.
    REPORT OF CHAIRMAN
    The Chairman advised that copies of the report of the "Commission on
    University Programs in Non-Metropolitan Areas" would be made available to
    Senators. Senators were asked to review the report and forward any comments
    to the Senate Committee on Academic Planning which would be considering the
    report, with recommendations to be presented to Senate in the very near future.

    specified term of office - no nominations were received.

    NOTICE OF MOTION
    i) Paper S. 76-110 - Notice of Motion - Amendment to the Rules of
    Senate - For Discussion
    It was noted that Policies and Procedures AC-18, approved by the
    Board of Governors, resulted in the titles of Demonstrators and Senior
    Demonstrators being changed to Laboratory Instructors I and II. It required
    that the Rules of Senate be amended to incorporate this technical change.

    9. INFORMATION
    As this meetingof Senate would be the last meeting for the Dean of Arts,
    Dr. W.A.S. Smith, the Members of Senate joined with the Chairman in conveying
    sincere best wishes in his position as President of Athabasca University.
    The Open Session was adjourned at 7:19 p.m. and Senate moved
    immediately into Closed Session.
    The Chairman drew attention to the date of the next scheduled meeting
    of Senate - Monday, October 4, 1976, at 7:00 p.m.
