    APPROVAL OF AGENDA
    The agenda was approved as distributed.

    APPROVAL OF MINUTES
    The minutes of the O

    en Session of December 2, 1974 were approved
    as circulated.
    3.
    BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES
    K. Rieckhoff referred to page 22 of the minutes of December 2, 1974
    wherein a motion he had proposed had been withdrawn pending further con-
    sideration which had since been undertaken by the Registrar, the Dean of
    Graduate Studies, and himself.
    Moved by K. Rieckhoff, seconded by J. Wheatley,
    "That any department or program listed as such
    in the Undergraduate Calendar may, with permission
    of the appropriate dean of faculty and the Dean of
    Graduate Studies, have a listing in the Graduate
    Calendar as follows:

    Students who wish to undertake interdisciplinary
    work involving (the named discipline or program),
    or who want to work in (the named discipline or
    program) under Special Arrangements should refer
    to paragraph 3.4 of the General Regulations."
    Question was called, and a vote taken.

    REPORT OF CHAIRMAN
    Paper S.75-1 - Annual Report - for informat

    In response to a request for further information, B. Wilson pointed
    out that detailed information covering A breakdown of budget figures
    appears in the annual budget book which is circulated to Deans and all
    Chairmen of Departments, and that a copy of this book would also be on
    file when available in the Libraçy. The current book foç 1974-75 is
    not yet available.

    REPORTS OF COMMITTEES
    1) Senate Library Commit

    a) Paper S.75-2 - Library Collection Policy - for information
    D. Baird explained that the document was a codification of the
    practices of the past several years in the Library, covering explicitly

    what is being done in connection with collection development. He
    noted an objective is to have flexible practices which would change
    in accordance with the needs of the University and invited comments
    from the assembly. E. Banister enquired if procedures were being
    developed to make copies of theses more readily available from the
    bindary, and was advised that the matter was currently under investi-
    gation and that a solution was anticipated shortly.
    K. Rieckhoff commended the Librarian on the presentation of the
    paper.
    ii) Senate Committee on Undergraduate Studies
    a)
    Paper S.75-3 - Grading Practices - Request for Extension of
    Report Deadline

    "That Senate approve, as set forth in S.75-3,
    that the deadline for submission of the report
    on Grading Practices in the University be
    extended to the March meeting of Senate."

    Specific Minors: in Elementary School Physical Education;
    in Early Childhood Education; in Learning Disabilities; in
    Environmental Education
    Moved by D. Birch, seconded by E. Burkle,
    "That Senate approve, and recommend approval
    to the Board of Governors, as set forth
    in
    S.75-4, the proposed changes to the Specific
    Minors: in Elementary School Physical Educa-
    tion; in Early Childhood Education; in Learning
    Disabilities; in Environmental Education."
    Question was called, and a vote taken.

    1) Paper S.75-5 - Calendar Changes - ÂME. Program

    to the Board of Governors, as set forth in
    S.75-5, the proposed calendar changes for the
    Africa/Middle East Studies Program."
    Question was called, and a vote taken.

    Paper S.75-6 - Calendar Changes - LAS. Program
    Moved by R. Brown, seconded by K. Rieckhoff,
    "That Senate approve, and recommend approval
    to the Board of Governors, as set forth in
    S.75-6, the proposed calendar changes for the
    Latin American Studies Program."
    Question was called, and a vote taken.

    iii)
    Paper S.75-7 - B.G.S. Calendar Statement
    Moved by R. Brown, seconded by E. Burkie,.
    "That Senate approve, and recommend approval
    to the Board of Governors, as set forth in
    S.75-7, the revised calendar statement for
    the Bachelor of General Studies Program."
    R. Brown explained that the intent was to clarify that it was
    contrary to the intent of a B.G.S. Degree for a student to pursue a
    major subject in the completion of requirements for a Bachelor of
    General Studies Degree.
    Question was called, and a vote taken.

    d) Faculty of Science
    i) Paper S.75-8 - Request for Waiver - CHEM 464-2
    Moved by S. Aronoff, seconded by K. Rieckhoff,
    "That Senate approve, and recommend approval
    to the Board of Governors, as set forth in
    S.75-8, that the normal two semester time lag
    requirement be waived in order that CHEM 464-2
    - Physical Chemistry of Solutions, may be first
    offered in 75-2."
    Quection was called, and a vote taken.

    Moved by S. Aronoff, seconded by K. Rieckhoff,
    "That Senate approve, and recommend approval
    to the Board of Governors, as set forth in
    S.75-9, the late calendar revisions for:

    Biological Sciences
    ii)
    Mathematics
    iii)
    Physics
    iv)
    Chemical Physics."
    Question was called, and a vote taken.

    OTHER BUSINESS
    On the occasion of the declaration by the United Nations of 1975
    .
    as International Women's Year, L. Latham presented the President with
    a copy of "Herstory," a history of the activities of women.

    There were no notices of motion.

    INFORMATION
    It was noted that the next meeting of Senate is scheduled for
    Monday, February 3, 1975, at 7:30 p.m.
    The assembly recessed briefly at 7:55 p.m. prior to moving into
    Closed Session.
