Rationale for request for minor course change to Kin 806:
We would like to request that Kin 806: Special Topics be modified to include the offering
of the course by distance education and to allow non-degree students to enroll. We have
designed a course entitled Prevention and Management
of Cardiovascular Disease to be
held in summer
2010 under Kin 806. This course had been created to appeal to health
professionals and others with an interest
in health in the cardiovascular field to improve
their breadth
of knowledge and skills. By offering it as a distance education course, this
will allow potential students outside
of the Lower Mainland to enroll and participate.

Rationale for grading basis change to PHYS 801
Physics 801,
Student Seminar, is a course that is required of all graduate
students and provides training in technical presentation. Students attend
and
give seminars over multiple semesters, and finish the course when they
have given a minimum number of successful presentations. Currently the
course
is graded Pass/Fail and there is ambiguity around when the student
should register to obtain credit for the course. The change to In Progress/No
Credit
removes this ambiguity, allows us to continue to require the course for
degree completion, and does not substantively change the student assessment
process.
