Committees - Paper S.270,
Item 5
In respect to Item 5 of Paper S.270, the Agenda Committee believes that
the Nominating Committee has acted in contradiction to its. terms of
reference in reporting that "it should not make nominations" for
vacancies on its own committee.
Paper S.65, approved by Senate September 1967, which outlines the
terms of reference of the Senate Nominating Committee includes the
following:
"Temporary replacement of members on the Nominating Committee,
and the presentation of names for the Nominating Committee
for subsequent twelve-month periods will be as in the
procedure laid down for other Senate committees."
The Senate Agenda Committee recommends:
"that Senate extend the life of the Nominating Committee for
one month so that it may fulfill its terms of reference in
respect to its own perpetuation. Any nominations already
received from individual senators will be carried forward
to the November meeting of Senate."
