RE Catendar Minimum Averaqes
DATE Februar y
28, 2007
At the SCEMP meeting on Wednesday, 15 February, 2006 Nick Heath, former Associate Registrar
and Director of Admissions, was instructed to devise proposed new wording for the calendar
regarding Calendar Minimum Averages to address the concern that the University was not living
up to its stated policy of a minimum average if applicants who achieve the minimum are denied
entry to SFU, even though spaces remain unfilled in their chosen program.
Instead of bringing the new wording to SCEMP Nick changed the wording in the 2006/2007 SFU
Calendar as follows:
FROM:
Minimum Admission Requirements
The minimum admission average will vary depending on the number of applications received, and
on spaces available. In no case will admission be offered to an applicant whose average is less
than 67%.
TO:
Minimum Admission Requirements
The minimum admission average will vary depending on the number of applications received, and
on spaces available. The minimum is determined by the respective faculty.
As this was never formally approved by SCUS I am proposing the following motion:
MOTION:
"That SCUS approve the change in Minimum Admission Requirements for all faculties to read as
follows: The minimum admission average will vary depending on the number of applications
received, and on spaces available. The minimum is determined by the respective faculty.
